The New Rioja (17-01-2012)
Last October we had the pleasure to guide a group of Swedes enjoying wine, gourmet food and active Holidaymaking. The concept of this trip explore La Rioja is to discover the New Rioja without forgetting its glorious and ancient past. The term The New Rioja might for a Spaniard already sound a little worn out in a world where hunger for novelty rules, but if you have not heard this term it is all about new ways of making powerful and fruity wine, modern cooking and an overall “new packaging” of a region that always was rich in heritage, good practice and friendliness. The New Rioja is architecture such as Santiago Calatravas Ysios or Frank Gehrys Marqués de Riscal - City of Wine. It is wine bottles in medicine or perfume-like bottles, and it is sublime cooking by its young but well-known chefs such as Francis Paniego or Héctor Oribe.
